About the Tanzania Petroleum Development Company

Tanzania Petroleum Development Corporation (TPDC), is the National Oil Company of Tanzania. TPDC operates under the Ministry of Energy and Minerals and is one of the technical advisory bodies for issues related to oil and gas to the Government of the United Republic of Tanzania.
Roles and Activities of TPDC
Roles and Activities of TPDC includes the following:
- Promotion and monitoring of oil and gas exploration.
- Development and production of oil and gas.
- Research and development of oil and gas industry in the Country.
- Advise the Government on petroleum related issues.
- Marketing and sales of petroleum products.
- Management of the National Petroleum Database.
These activities can be performed autonomously or in association with Oil and Gas Companies through Production Sharing Agreements (PSA) or Joint Ventures.
As of April 2012, there are 24 active Exploration Licenses, 3 Production Licenses and 2 License Applications. 2D and 3D data acquisition is ongoing in onshore and offshore basins and at least 10 exploration wells are expected to be drilled in different parts of the country in 2012.
